Open to youth ages 14-19, this engaging program focuses on developing young leaders to be active witnesses of the Gospel and equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to do so. Through interactive activities, lively speakers, prayer, the sacraments and service, participants will gain new insight into leadership and see it from the perspective of their Catholic faith.

The program includes:

Four dynamic and hands-on sessions to develop participants’ understanding of themselves as leaders in the context of Christ and the Church.

Session #1: Anointed for Mission (Overnight Retreat)

Session #2: The Mission of Christ
Saturday, January 8, 2011; 10 AM – 6 PM
Toronto (Venue TBA)

Session #3: The Mission of the Church
Saturday, March 5, 2011; 10 AM – 6 PM

Session #4: Vocation
Saturday, May 14, 2011; 10 AM – 6 PM

Three observation blocks (one between each session) to promote ongoing exploration of lessons learned in previous sessions
Observation blocks are a period where participants reflect on what they have learned in past sessions and strive to build a more personal understanding of the content outside of the formal sessions. During each observation block, participants will be given an option of several simple reflective activities (e.g. write in a journal, volunteer at the parish, conduct a survey) and be required to complete one of the tasks by the next session.

Mentorship with an OCY staff member
Participants will have an opportunity to select an OCY staff member to act as their mentor during the program. During each session, participants will be given an opportunity to meet with their OCY mentor and to receive guidance on their leadership development. During each observation blocks, participants will be required to check-in with their mentor in order to ensure progress is being made with their block a to assist in their ongoing reflection.

Upon successful completion of the program (i.e. attendance of all four sessions, completion of all three observation blocks and participation in mentorship sessions), participants will be empowered with the tools to serve their community and invited to apply themselves as young Catholic leaders in their respective parishes, schools and communities. In recognition of their achievement, graduates will receive a certificate of completion, as well as be invited by the Office of Catholic Youth to take a greater role in the planning and implementation of its Archdiocesan youth programs and events.
